ABOUT
MICHELLE
Michelle Wilkin is a New Zealand 'abstract minimalism' artist. Her work is inspired by the calming and evocative influences of nature, where she embraces her intuition to guide her practice.
Michelle’s original fine artworks are a welcome escape from today's loud and busy world. Offering a place of calm for the viewer to sink into their thoughts and find comfort in the quiet spaces. Her work aims to challenge the concept of what most people vision when thinking about abstract art. Her pieces are as much about the intention of subtle details, as they are the absence of them.
Using her signature neutral colour palette and a variety of techniques, she manipulates layers upon layers of harmonious acrylic paint to create her atmospheric pieces. Michelle’s uncommon choice to leave her canvas raw and unprimed creates a unique effect where the paint soaks in and desaturates as it dries, creating a soft nostalgic quality to her fine artworks.
Michelle is represented by Leighton Contemporary Gallery in Australia (Noosaville QLD), Turua Gallery in New Zealand (Auckland), and has an ongoing partnership with NZ retailer Kayu Studio.
