ABOUT
Michelle Wilkin is a New Zealand 'abstract minimalism' artist. She lives with her husband and two children in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland.
Inspired by the peaceful and evocative influences of nature, she embraces her intuition to guide her practice.
Michelle’s original fine artworks are a welcome escape from today's loud and busy world. Offering a place of calm for the viewer to sink into their thoughts and find comfort in the quiet spaces. Her work aims to challenge the concept of what most people vision when thinking about abstract art. Her pieces are as much about the intention of subtle details, as they are the absence of them.
Using her signature neutral colour palette and a variety of techniques, she manipulates layers upon layers of harmonious acrylic paint to create her atmospheric pieces. Michelle’s uncommon choice to leave her canvas raw and unprimed creates a unique effect where the paint soaks in and desaturates as it dries, creating a soft nostalgic quality to her fine artworks.
Michelle’s captivating aesthetic has quickly become a source of daily calm for her Instagram followers, with collectors of her fine art spanning all corners of the globe.
